Controller Mode¶
Controller Mode is a controller-first, 10-foot version of the Amri app, laid out for a television or a handheld and navigable without a mouse. It is the same app as the desktop app, rendered for the couch instead of the desk. The Steam Deck is a target.
What it is¶
The desktop app assumes a pointer, a keyboard, and a screen at arm's length. Controller Mode assumes a controller or a touchscreen and a screen across the room. Text is larger, targets are bigger, and every screen is reachable with the bumpers, the d-pad, and the stick. A persistent corner mark shows Amri's listening state so you always know whether it is hearing you.
The two are two presentations of one app, not two different products. Which one you see is chosen for you by the environment: a handheld or a game-mode session opens in Controller Mode, a normal desktop session opens in the desktop app.
How it relates to the desktop app¶
Controller Mode mirrors the desktop app closely. The screens carry the same features and the same words, in the same order, so a setting is called the same thing and lives in the same place in both. The difference is how you move through them: bumpers step across the top-level sections, the d-pad and stick move within a section, and selecting an item opens its controls in place.
One area does not mirror. The full command editor, where you write and shape a command in detail, is desktop-only. Deep command authoring is done on the desktop; Controller Mode is for running, switching, and adjusting a setup that already exists.
Fits a controller setup¶
Controller Mode suits a play session where the desktop is out of reach. A common pairing is per-game profile switching: Amri changes to a game's profile when that game takes focus, so the set of commands follows the game without you touching a keyboard. On a handheld or a television, that is the setup you want.
